Mystics play to a 1-1 draw with Hurricanes
Emma Bowser scored in the Mystics 1-1 tie with the Holland Hurricanes Sunday afternoon in Halifax, NS.
The Mystics women's soccer team got off to a great start in the match, with Ashley Neves getting a chance less than a minute into the match, but sent the ball wide on the left side.
It didn't take long for the Hurricanes to respond when Yuki Komine sent a ball through to Cassandra Forsuh, but it was headed away. Forsuh had another chance soon after, but MSVU keeper Morgan Gillis made her first of six saves in the contest.
The Mystics continued to press with Neves sending a ball towards that hit the cross bar and came down in front of the the Hurricanes keeper, Jordyn Pratt. Emma Farrell sent a ball towards Holland's net, and she too hit the cross bar.
Neves got off a great shot from just outside the 18 yard box after a Holland foul, but Pratt managed to make the save. Mhyah Allen had a great look on the resulting corner kick, but Pratt was able to make another save.
Just a few minutes later, Emma Bowser headed the ball into the Holland net off a well-placed corner kick to give the Mystics a 1-0 lead.
As time ticked down in the first half, Holland had a great chance to tie things up with a tic-tac-toe play in front of the Mystics net, but Abby Murphy sent the ball wide.
Beth Padfield hit the Mystics third cross bar after she sent a ball from far away towards the net.
The Mystics took a 1-0 lead into half time.
Both teams traded opportunities early in the second half, with Kristyn Taylor and Jorja Shields forcing Gillis to make some big saves. Allen and Neves had great opportunities for the Mystics, but neither could find the back of the net.
Komine tied things up in the 82nd minute, sending ball high over Gillis after the Mystics were called for a foul just outisde their 18 yard box.
Each team had a few additional opportunities, but neither could score, leaving the game tied 1-1.
