Mystics play to 1-1 draw with Tommies
Mhyah Allen scored the lone goal for the Mystics in their 1-1 tie with the St. Thomas Tommies Saturday afternoon in Halifax.
The Mystics came out strong in the first half with Beth Padfield getting two great chances within the first 15 minutes of play, but Tommies keeper Izzy Sharpe stopped the first and the other went just wide of the net.
Leah Mombourquette had a good look soon after for the Mount with a hard and low shot that hit the post.
Caitlyn Steeves had the first scoring opportunity for the Tommies, but Mystics keeper Morgan Gillis pounced on the ball and thwarted the opportunity.
MSVU's Ashley Neves put a ball in front of the net for Allen, but Sharpe made the save.
Sharpe continued to make save after save throughout the second part of the first half, keeping the Mystics would be goal-scorers at bay. Both teams were scoreless at the half.
The Tommies upped the pressure to start the second half, highlighted by a corner kick from Erika Swinamer that found the head of Katy Davidge who sent the ball wide.
Mhyah Allen managed to get the ball in close to the net, firing a hard ball at Sharpe would made the save, but Allen jumped on the rebound to put the Mystics up 1-0 in the 54th minute.
The Mystics had a few more chances, but Sharpe continued to shine for the Tommies stopping them all.
Steeves tied the game up in the 78th minute, taking advantage of a loose ball, breaking away from the Mystics defenders. Gillis came out to challenge but was unable to stop the ball.
That would do it for scoring, leaving the teams knotted at one goal apiece.
Both teams are back in action Sunday afternoon. The Mystics host UNBSJ, while the Tommies take on University of King's College. Both games are at 1:00pm.
