Mystics fall to Seawolves in three sets
The visiting UNBSJ Seawolves defeated the Mystics 3-0 Sunday afternoon in Halifax.
(Halifax, NS) The UNBSJ Seawolves defeated the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics 26-24, 25-17, 25-16 at the A. Garnet Brown Memorial Gymnasium Sunday afternoon.
As the first set kicked off, it was a back and forth set as the Mystics took an early 2-0 lead as Hannah Huntley (Truro, NS) win the point with an ace. The Seawolves would tie the set at 3 as Emily Robichaud (Fredericton, NB) recorded a kill. The Mystics would jump ahead again, thanks to a kill from Catherine MacPhail (Halifax, NS) and an ace from McKenzie Antle (Bishops Falls, NL), as they would lead 5-3. The Seawolves would respond as Kate McLeod (Saint John, NB) recorded an ace to tie the set at 5. As the set advanced, the Seawolves would gain control, as they jumped out to a 16-10 lead with a kill from Dominique Gendron (Dieppe, NB). The Mystics would respond after an intense rally when Mc. Antle would finish a kill to lessen the Seawolves' lead to 17-15. Huntley would answer for the Mystics as she tied the match at 20 when she registered a kill. With the score deadlocked at 24, the Seawolves would close out the Mystics in the set, as Gendron recorded consecutive kills to win the set 26-24.
The Mystics opened the second set strong as Cela MacLellan (Sydney, NS) finished with a kill. After the Seawolves tied it up, the Mystics received another kill from MacPhail to give the Mystics a narrow 2-1 lead at the start of the set. The Seawolves would go on a three-point run, as they would have three consecutive kills. The first from Robichaud, followed by Gendron, and the last kill from McLeod. The Seawolves would maintain control throughout the set, as they were able to extend their lead to 18-10. The Mystics attempted to comeback as Sarah Ryan (Inverness, NS) would have a kill of her own to lessen the gap to 18-11. The Seawolves' lead was insurmountable for the Mystics, as the Seawolves would take the set 25-17.
The Mystics looked to spark a comeback in the third set, as MacLellan and MacPhail each had a kill early in the set to keep the game deadlocked at 2. The Seawolves would have consecutive kills from Robichaud early in the set. As the set progressed, the Seawolves were executing efficiently as their lead increased to 17-12. Ryan would record a kill for the Mystics, but their efforts were not enough as the Seawolves would continue to control the set, and would ultimately close out the Mystics winning the third set 25-16.

They will return to the court next Saturday February 1st when they travel to Truro to take on the Dalhousie Rams. First serve is at 4:00pm.
