Soccer Mystics defeat Hurricanes
The Mystics men's soccer team defeated the Holland Hurricanes 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Halifax, NS
The Mystics controlled the pace of play early on in the game, patiently moving the ball through their system. That patience paid off early on after Noah Hutchison-Mills sent a neat pass through to his brother Cole Hutchison-Mills to put MSVU up 1-0 just seven minutes into the game.
Holland worked hard to respond, with Hatem Al masri sending a corner kick towards the Mystics net, but Tristan Brocklehurst made the save. A short while later, Al masri sent a ball to Carson Crawford who headed the ball towards the Mystics net, but Brocklehurst made the diving save.
The Hurricanes had a few more chances to score, but were still trailing by one heading into halftime.
Holland's Kai Nurse put a shot on net off a corner from Al masri, but Brocklehurst leapt to make the save.
Noah Hutchison-Mills was able to move the ball up the left side a number of times, including a 2-1 breakaway with brother Cole, but they were unable to complete the effort.
The Mystics tested Hurricanes keeper Kole MacWilliams midway through the second half with Cole Hutchinson-Mills and Quinn Halsey each sending shots his way, but MacWilliams made both saves.
Nurse sent a zinger towards the Mystics net in hopes of tying the match, but Brocklehurst tipped the ball high over the crossbar to make the save.
An additional six minutes of play was added to regulation, but Holland was unable to score and the game would end with the Mytsics taking them 1-0 win.
