Tommies Top Mystics 2-1
Noah Hutchison-Mills scored his fourth goal of the season in the Mystics 2-1 loss to the St. Thomas Tommies Saturday afternoon in Halifax.
MSVU opened the scoring early when Noah Hutchison-Mills stole the ball from the Tommies defence and found the back of the net just five minutes into the match.
St. Thomas responded with a number of scoring chances soon after, but had a hard time finding the back of the net, with Mystics keeper Tristan Brocklehurst making a number of saves early on.
Matthew Opera had a great opportunity for the Tommies when headed the ball just over the net off a beautiful cross from Ahmed Hafez.
He managed to find the back of the net not long after, jumping on a ball shot off the cross bar from just outside the 18 yard box after a Mystics foul, tying the match at 1-1.
That would do it for scoring in the first half.
St. Thomas came out hard in the second half and controlled the pace of play for much of the final 45 minutes.
They earned the go ahead goal in the 58th minute when Farel Kengne took a pass in front of the net and put the ball low to the right corner of the net to go up 2-1.
STU's Jovahn Garrity-Anderson had a chance to put the Tommies up 3-1, sending a high shot towards the Mystics net, but Brocklehurst batted the ball away.
Brocklehurst continued to come up big for the Mystics, stopping 14 of the Tommies 16 shots on net.
The Mystics had a chance to tie things up in the dying minutes of the game, when Cooper McVicar-Smith put a shot on net, but STU keeper Ahmed Hossana made the save.
Both teams are back in action on Sunday. The Mystics host UNBSJ, while the Tommies take on the UKC Blue Devils.
