Men's soccer ties Holland
The Mystics played to a 0-0 draw with the visiting Holland Hurricanes Sunday afternoon in Halifax.
The Mount Mystics came out looking to earn their third win of the 2024-25 season, and had some early chances from Aiden Whelan who got two shots off early in the match. Holland's Chad McNally was also busy around the net with a shot in close, but Mystics keeper Tristan Brocklehurst made the save.
Cooper McVicar-Smith had a chance soon after, but it was tunred away by Hurricanes keeper Nolan Kowal.
Kowal made another save off a shot from Whelan just outside the 18 yard box.
The back and forth continued throughtout the first half with both teams trading chances including a great one for Holland's Fiston Ngabonziza who tried to put it over Brocklehurst's head, but he was able to bat it away. Ruban Viji had another great chance for Holland putting a sharp shot up close on Brocklehurst, but he again made the save. Brocklehurst added another key save for the Mystics after McNally moved the ball up the field and put the ball on net for Holland.
Ignacio Chung Michelsen put a billiant ball through to Whelan who put a hard and low shot to the Hurricanes net, but Kowal made the save.
After 45 minutes of play, the score remained 0-0.
Both teams came out playing a very physical style of game in the second half.
A foul on Holland just outside the box created an opportunity to score for the Mystics, but they were unable to capitalize.
Chung Michelsen had a great chance to open the scoring in the 79th minute off a corner kick, but his shot went just wide of the net.
A few minutes later, the Mount was called for a handball just outside the 18 yard box but Ngabonziza's sent the ball a little wide on the left side.
With both teams unable to find the back of the net, the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
The Mystics currently sit in fourth with a 2-2-2 record, while Holland is in sixth at 1-4-1.
Both teams are back in action next weekend.
