Mystics topped the Chargers 97-62
Nate Titus led the Mystics’ offence with 16 points to defeat the Chargers.
(Halifax, NS) The Mount Saint Vincent Mystics defeated the Crandall Chargers 97-62 Saturday afternoon at the A. Garnet Brown Memorial Gymnasium.
Nate Titus (Stouffville, ON) lead the way for the Mystics as he finished with a game-high 16 points, and 7 rebounds. Chase Tynes (Loon Lake, NS) had an all-around game for the Mystics, as he recorded 13 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks. Ben Kearney (New Waterford, NS) recorded a double-double for the Mystics, as he scored 11 points, and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Colby McIntosh (Florenceville, NB) scored a team-high 15 points, with 6 rebounds. Luca Del Bosco (Montreal, QC) chipped in with 14 points and 3 rebounds. Jayden Lucas (Lucasville, NS) recorded 10 points and 4 rebounds off the bench for the Chargers.
As the game tipped off, Tynes made an impact early on as he opened scoring with a driving lay-up off his own steal. He would intercept another Chargers pass a few plays later which led to a dunk in transition. Del Bosco would respond with a fadeaway jumper a few plays afterwards. As teams continued to battle in the quarter, Titus made his presence known with consecutive three pointers. The Mystics would continue to ramp up their defensive presence, as they would grab a 29-13 lead at the end of the quarter.
The Mystics would open up the second quarter with consecutive threes off from Mekhi Paris (Truro, NS) and Titus. Teams would continue to trade baskets throughout the quarter. The Mystics would have a run midway through the quarter which was capped off by a Kearney layup after Tynes crashed the offensive glass to find his teammate. Tynes would continue to dominate defensively as his blocked shot would lead to an Evan Castle (Surrey, BC) layup in transition. The Mystics would take a 52-24 lead into the halftime break.
The Chargers looked to shift the momentum early on in the quarter as Del Bosco would lead the run, knocking down a three point shot. He would score again moments later, when his steal led to his own transition layup. The Mystics would respond with another layup by Kearney off the Tynes assist. The Chargers would chip away at the Mystics' lead, but the Mystics would respond again quickly as Kearney would record a blocked shot which led to an Adam Callaghan (Sydney, NS) three. The Mystics would close out the quarter with a 70-44 lead.
Justin Grant (Caledon, ON) had his footprint all over the fourth quarter, both offensively and defensively. His defensive presence in the passing lane, led to a steal which he emphatically met the rim with a huge slam dunk midway through the quarter. The Mystics were able to maintain their lead in the game and would end up winning 97- 62.
Both teams return to the court tomorrow afternoon at 4:00pm as they face off against each other in Halifax.
