Cromwell leads Mystics to win over Seawolves
Isaiah Cromwell-Wright scored 42 points to lead the Mystics to an 83-69 victory over the UNBSJ Seawolves Sunday afternoon in Halifax.
Halifax, NS – The MSVU Mystics defeated the UNBSJ Seawolves 83-69 Sunday afternoon in Halifax.
UNBSJ got out to an early lead, leading 6-0 before a three-pointer from Isaiah Cromwell-Wright (Dartmouth, NS) cut the lead in half two and a half minutes into the first quarter. He scored 12 of the Mystics 17 points, who trailed 21-17 at the end of the first.
The Seawolves continued to increase their lead in the second quarter, and were up by as many as 15 at one point. Ryan Polland (Quispamsis, NB) and Daren Clarke (Hamilton, ON) paced UNBSJ with eight and seven points apiece in the second quarter, while Cromwell-Wright added another eight points to bring his total to 20 in the first half. The Seawolves were up 47-37 heading into the locker room.
The Mystics came out hard in the third to work on closing the gap from the first half. That hard work paid off as they out-scored the Seawolves by six points to trail the Seawolves 61-57 heading into the fourth and final quarter.
MSVU continued to press and took the lead with early in the fourth. The Mystics out-shot the Seawolves 26-8 to win the game by a score of 83-69.
Cromwell-Wright scored a game-high 42 points for the Mystics in the win. He added 11 rebounds, three steals and an assist in the effort. Ben Kearney (New Waterford, NS) added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Adam Callaghan (Sydney, NS) had 11 points, four assists and two steals.
Leading the way for the Seawolves was AJ Nash (St. John's, Nfld) with 19 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals. Clarke added another 17 points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist.
The Mystics are back in action next Saturday when the host the Crandall Chargers. The Seawolves have a bye next week.
