Mystics defeat visiting Mounties 108-74
A well-rounded performance by the Mystics as Isaiah Cromwell-Wright paced their offence with a team-high 20 points as they defeated the visiting Mount Allison Mounties.
(Halifax, NS) The Mount Saint Vincent Mystics defeated the visiting Mount Allison Mounties Sunday afternoon 108-74 at the A. Garnet Brown Memorial Gymnasium.
Isaiah Cromwell-Wright (Dartmouth, NS) paced the Mystics' offence with a team-high 20 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Adam Callaghan (Sydney, NS) had a well-rounded game for the Mystics, finishing with 18 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Chase Tynes (Loon Lake, NS) chipped in with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 6 steals to round out the Mystics' attack.
Brennan Devereux (Moncton, NB) led the Mounties' attack, finishing with a game-high 23 points and 3 rebounds. Ryan Norris (Ottawa, ON) aided their attack, with 16 points, 5 rebounds. Rounding out the Mounties' offence, Lance Mombourquette (Fredericton, NB) recorded a 12 point, 12 rebound double-double.
The Mystics opened the game with Isaiah Cromwell-Wright knocking down a three from the top of the arc, but the Mounties answered quickly as Jonas Munroe (Moncton, NB) converted back-to-back transition layups. Adam Callaghan added a midrange jumper. He then sparked the Mystics' offense, drilling a transition three. The Mounties briefly swung momentum back with a four-point play from Ryan Norris, but Callaghan stayed hot, hitting his next three point attempt to push the Mystics ahead 13–10. He continued to fuel the attack, setting up Cromwell-Wright for a transition layup, though Munroe kept the Mounties close with a three of his own. As the teams traded baskets, Chase Tynes made his presence felt on the offensive glass, grabbing rebounds and finishing a put-back layup through sheer hustle. Callaghan added his third three of the quarter, and Tynes powered to the rim for a tough finish to extend the lead to 29–18. The Mystics closed the frame with strong momentum, taking a 31–20 advantage into the second quarter.
The Mystics came out strong in the second quarter, with Anthony Lecky (Sydney River, NS) powering through contact for an early tough finish. The Mounties answered back as Brennan Devereux knocked down a three, but momentum quickly swung back to the Mystics when Callaghan drained another triple. Devereux responded with his second three of the quarter, keeping the Mounties within reach.
The Mystics then surged ahead behind Keigan Feron (Bedford, NS), who converted back-to-back and-one finishes, pushing the lead to 41-32. Out of a timeout, Cromwell-Wright buried consecutive corner threes off Callaghan's assists, extending the Mystics' advantage to double digits. Callaghan continued to make his presence felt, crashing the offensive glass for a putback layup. The Mounties fought back with consecutive baskets from Christian Hager (Brantford, ON), but the Mystics' relentless attack continued. Tynes muscled in a tough basket through contact, again assisted by Callaghan, and Mekhi Paris (Truro, NS) splashed a corner three in transition to stretch the lead to 15. After a timeout, Norris hit a three for the Mounties, but Callaghan answered immediately with a contested mid-range jumper late in the quarter. The Mystics closed the half with a 58-42 lead.
The Mystics started the third quarter with a bang as Tynes drilled a three just as the shot clock expired. The Mounties answered with a smooth backdoor layup from Devereux, but the Mystics quickly responded when Keigan Feron scored inside off another pinpoint assist from Callaghan. Devereux continued his hot shooting, knocking down a transition three to keep the Mounties in the fight. The Mystics ramped up their defensive intensity, which led to a transition layup by Ben Kearney (New Waterford, NS). The Mounties countered with Norris finishing in traffic, forcing the Mystics to call a timeout. Out of the break, the Mystics pushed the pace, and Tynes followed up a teammate's miss with a putback layup to extend the lead to 72-51. The Mystics closed the quarter in style as Cromwell-Wright connected on a deep three and then beat the buzzer with another from long range, giving the Mystics an 82-54 lead heading into the fourth.
The Mounties opened the final frame with Devereux continuing his aggressive play, finishing a driving layup through contact. The Mystics answered in transition as Lecky found Kyan Feron (Bedford, NS) in the corner for a smooth three-pointer. Both teams traded baskets throughout the quarter, with Devereux connecting on several tough finishes to keep the Mounties battling. The Mystics' bench stepped up late, as Lecky powered to the rim for a strong finish, pushing the lead to 97-72. Kearney added to the bench contributions with a well-timed basket cut, converting off a sharp entry pass from Lecky. The Mystics maintained control down the stretch, closing out the game with balanced scoring and strong team play. The Mystics would continue to control the game as they would defeat the visiting Mounties by a final score of 108-74.
