Lawtons Drugs Athletes of the Week
Morgan Gillis, Mo Hammo, Bronwyn Murphy, Luke Conlon and Taylor Kukurski are this week's Lawtons Drugs Athletes of the Week!
Morgan Gillis
Fifth-year keeper Morgan Gillis, is this week's Lawtons Athlete of the Week for Women's Soccer.
According to Head Coach, Jenna Blackburn:
"In Saturday’s 1-0 semifinal win over UKC, Morgan was outstanding between the posts, making several key saves to preserve the narrow lead and secure her team’s spot in the final. Her composure, communication, and leadership kept the defensive line organized and confident under pressure.
In Sunday’s 3-1 championship victory over UNBSJ, Mo continued her stellar form, coming up with a crucial breakaway save to keep the momentum in her team’s favour. Her positive energy, vocal presence, and team-first attitude set the tone for a championship-winning performance.
With her consistency, confidence, and clutch performances in big moments, Mo was instrumental in backstopping her team to an ACAA title for the 2nd year in a row!!"
Mo Hammo
Third-year defender Muhammed Hammo, is this week's Lawtons Athlete of the Week for Men's Soccer.
According to Head Coach, Kieran Collins:
"Cooper was a driving force in midfield this weekend, playing a full 180 minutes and making a massive impact on both sides of the ball. His relentless energy and determination set the tone for the team, and he was rewarded with a well-deserved goal for his efforts.
Cooper’s work rate, composure in possession, and ability to cover every inch of the pitch were key to maintaining control in both matches. His performance embodies the heart and commitment expected from a Mystic."
Bronwyn Murphy
First-year runner, Bronwyn Murphy is this week's Lawtons Athlete of the Week for Cross Country.
According to Head Coach, Linda MacDonald:
"Bronwyn, a rookie on the team , placed 7th @ the ACAA championships held in Truro this weekend . She ran a strong 6k performance finishing in 28:28 leading her team to a second place finish .She ran a smart , tactical race ,working effectively with her teammates staying composed and conservative through the early kms , before opening up on the back half . Bronwyn consistently demonstrates strong closing ability. This was a 2.3km loop course with 56m of elevation gain."
Luke Conlon
First-year runner, Luke Conlon is this week's Lawtons Athlete of the Week for Cross Country.
According to Head Coach, Linda MacDonald:
"Luke ran an impressive 34:52 over the ACAA championship 8mk course placing 15th overall and meeting the National qualifying standard. Luke went out hard, with tough competitors, on a challenging uphill start course, then ran solo through the middle kms, which is always tough, before finishing with a strong kick in the final km. He races with determination and backs it up with consistent effort which is showing up with his performances."
Taylor Kukurski
Second-year left side, Taylor Kukurski, is this week's Lawtons Athlete of the Week for Women's Volleyball.
According to Assistant Coach, Jamie Brown:
"Taylor helped the Mystics secure a 1-1 finish in the first weekend of regular season play. On Saturday against UNBSJ Taylor led the offence with 9 kills, she also had 1 ace, 1 block and 9 digs. On Sunday against STU Taylor had 7 kills, 3 aces, 2 blocks and 10 digs. All weekend Taylor was outstanding on serve reception which helped the team run a successful offence."
