Sophie Quinn
First-year Defender, Sophie Quinn, is this week's Lawtons Athlete of the Week for Women's Soccer.
According to Head Coach, Jenna Blackburn:
"First-year player Sophie Quinn made a big impact for the team as we battled to an impressive 5th place finish at the CCAA National Championship. Despite being new to university level soccer, Sophie played with the confidence and intensity of a veteran.
A fierce and fast competitor, Sophie consistently disrupted the opposition’s attack, winning countless challenges and dominating in the air to shut down scoring chances. Her grit and relentless energy set the tone for the team, and she could always be counted on to step up with big tackles in crucial moments.
Sophie’s fearless play, defensive strength, and unwavering determination were key to the Mystics’ success on the national stage!"
Amani Oystreck
First-year runner, Amani Oystreck, is this week's Lawtons Athlete of the Week for Women's Cross Country.
According to Head Coach, Linda MacDonald:
"Amani delivered a terrific performance at this weekend's CCAA Cross Country Nationals at Holland College. Competing on a challenging 6k course featuring significant hills and made even more demanding by steady rain and muddy conditions, she demonstrated perseverance and competitive maturity. Finishing in a time of 27:44, Amani was the top female runner on the team, showcasing her poise and resilience in the face of difficult conditions."
Luke Conlon
First-year runner, Luke Conlon, is this week's Lawtons Athlete of the Week for Men's Cross Country.
According to Head Coach, Linda MacDonald:
"Luke had a great performance at CCAA Cross Country Nationals hosted by Holland College in PEI this weekend. Competing in extremely tough conditions, rain, mud and relentless hills, he led the team with a time of 34:16 finishing as our top runner. Despite the challenging course he showed remarkable progress, improving by 2 mins from his race on this course in September. His focus and ability to perform under pressure capped off an impressive effort on one of the most demanding courses of the season."
Jenna Allison
Second-year Middle Blocker, Jenna Allison, is this week's Lawtons Athlete of the Week for Women's Volleyball.
According to Assistant Coach, Jamie Brown:
"Jenna’s play, energy and intensity led the Mystics to two wins this weekend. In the Mystics Home Opener 3-0 win against UKC Jenna had 7 kills, 4 aces and 4 blocks. On Sunday in a close 3-2 win against the Crandall Chargers Jenna added 4 kills, 1 ace, 2 blocks and 3 digs."
Keezaidra Smith
Third-year Guard, Keezaidra "Zai" Smith, is this week's Lawtons Athlete of the Week for Women's Basketball.
According to Head Coach, Mark Forward:
"Although she scored just four points in our only game of the weekend, her influence on the game was tremendous. Zai recorded 5 steals, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds, but her true impact went well beyond the stat sheet.
She was a major force in leading the Mystics’ defensive efforts against a strong Hurricanes team and their talented guard play. Zai kept their guards out of the key, applied relentless pressure, and forced rushed shots and turnovers—never allowing them to find a rhythm offensively.
Her hustle and defensive intensity were key factors in the team’s victory and helped the Mystics remain undefeated."
Adam Callaghan
Fifth-year Guard, Adam Callaghan, is this week's Lawtons Athlete of the Week for Men's Basketball.
According to Head Coach, Danny De Palma:
"Adam scored a game-high 23 points in the Mystics home opener, leading the team to a 79–61 win over Holland College.
Callaghan, a fifth-year senior, shot 62% from the field and provided outstanding effort on the defensive end."
